如何用好三个句式:“Could You Tell Me…”、“When was the last time…”、“What’s Up”,请看华尔街英语外教详细解说!
Could You Tell Me…?
“Could you tell me how to get to the station please?” Perhaps you’re living in a new city or you’re just visiting for a short while. You’ve decided to explore your new surroundings and then all of a sudden you’re lost! You feel helpless and afraid to ask a stranger. However, asking for directions doesn’t have to be so scary! Starting your sentence with “Could you tell me…” is an informal and polite way to ask someone for directions or even for advice: “Could you tell me where to find a traditional restaurant?” If someone is asking you these questions, simply replying with “sure,” or “of course;” it lets the person know that you can help.

用“could you tell me…”

When was the last time…?
Q: “When was the last time you went on vacation?”
A: “The last time I went on vacation was one year ago. I visited the Philippines and relaxed on the beach.”
You can use this structure when you want to know when activities were completed in the past. For example:
Q: “When was the last time you cooked dinner?”
A: “The last time I cooked dinner was one week ago.”
Once you’ve given an answer, you can ask follow-up questions like “What did you cook?” or “How was it?” We also use this structure to refer to the last activity completed, not all past activities.

What’s Up
Different people around the world greet each other in different ways. When we read textbooks, they may present a very general, accepted way of greeting. In reality, the greeting used in the textbook is rarely used. If you want to blend in with natives and make real connections with people, it’s good to know how people greet. After all, greetings are first impressions; and first impressions are very important.
In American English, it is common to greet others with the saying “What’s up?” This saying is different than “How are you?”! When we ask “What’s up?” we want to know what is happening in another person’s life. The answer can be “Nothing.” or “Not too much.” or a more exciting “I’m going to Sanya tomorrow!” Respond with what’s happening in your life. After you answer, remember to (respond by saying)ask what’s up with the other person, too: “And you?” You’ll be a big hit among English speakers, especially Americans, if you can pull off this greeting smoothly.
