这是第68天阅读英文版《傲慢与偏见》。
简对妹妹伊丽莎白说：
“I know you do; and it is that which makes the wonder. With your good sense, to be so honestly blind to the follies and nonsense of others! Affectation of candour is common enough; — one meets it every where. But to be candid without ostentation or design — to take the good of everybody’s character and make it still better, and say nothing of the bad — belongs to you alone. And so, you like this man’s sisters too, do you? Their manners are not equal to his.”
“我知道你是这样的，会让人觉得奇妙。你很聪明，你对别人的荒唐和愚蠢视而不见。伪装的真诚很普遍，到处会遇到一个。但是你的真诚没炫耀也没目的，觉得每个人的性格都是好的，不说任何人的不好，只有你是这样的。你也喜爱这个男人的姐妹吗？她们的修养不等于是他的。”
上述是我把这段文字转化的中文，不是很准确，但是大意是对的。

这段文字实际上我浏览一遍，是看不明白说的啥，主要是有一大些的生词是拦路虎，我还是老老实实先查阅词汇注释：
1. wonder
词性：名词
含义：惊奇；诧异
用法：“makes the wonder”，“令人感到惊奇”。
2. blind
词性：形容词
含义：视而不见的；盲目的
用法：“honestly blind to”，“真诚地对……视而不见”。
3. follies
词性：名词（复数）
含义：愚蠢的行为；荒唐事
用法：与“nonsense”并列。
4. nonsense
词性：名词
含义：荒谬的言行；胡言乱语
用法：描述不合理行为。
5. affectation
词性：名词
含义：假装；做作
用法：“Affection of candour”，“伪装的坦诚”。
6. candour
词性：名词
含义：坦诚；直率
用法：与“affectation”对比。
7. candid
词性：形容词
含义：坦诚的；直率的
用法：“be candid without ostentation”，“不炫耀的坦诚”。
8. ostentation
词性：名词
含义：炫耀；卖弄
用法：“without ostentation or design”，“不炫耀、无目的”。
我补充几个例句，体会“ostentation”的用法：

Choose a life of action, not one of ostentation.

含义：意图；谋划
用法：坦诚并非出于功利目的

词性：形容词
含义：相当的；平等的
用法：“not equal to his”，“比不上他的”。
这篇笔记我补充的例句较少，这样是为了读的轻快一点，以后每篇笔记挑选一个单词补充例句，不然，例句太多，量大了反而嚼不烂。
有条件的时候，我每篇笔记还要在纸上拿笔写写，原始的学习方式应该是效果好的。

我把这段文字逐句拆解阅读一遍：
1. “I know you do; and it is that which makes the wonder.”
I know you do：简洁呼应前文。
makes the wonder：“让人觉得奇妙”。
2. “With your good sense, to be so honestly blind to the follies and nonsense of others!”
good sense：明智；判断力强
honestly blind：“真诚地视而不见”
blind 瞎的
follies and nonsense：愚蠢和荒唐
sense与nonsense，是反义词
3. “Affectation of candour is common enough; — one meets it every where.”
Affectation of candour：“伪装的坦诚”
candour 坦率
“affectation”，伪装；做作
common enough：“足够常见”
“every where”，到处
4. “But to be candid without ostentation or design — to take the good of everybody’s character and make it still better, and say nothing of the bad — belongs to you alone.”
without ostentation or design：“不炫耀、无目的”
design有“意图”的意思
take the good... make it still better：“放大优点”。
“say nothing of the bad”，对缺点只字不提。
belongs to you alone：“唯独属于你”。
5. “And so, you like this man’s sisters too, do you? Their manners are not equal to his.”
And so：“那么”。
Their manners are not equal to his：“她们的举止不如他”。
“equal to”，比得上
读英文版《傲慢与偏见》，有的段落读起来还是觉得有点吃力，这说明自己的词汇还是缺乏熟悉。
英文的发音也是盲人摸象，也不用参加啥英语考试了，我就出于一个执念，就是要读英文版的《傲慢与偏见》，且每一段都要读，每一段的每一句都要读，每一段的阅读都要写一篇阅读笔记。
一年读一遍算一年，两年读完算两年，三年读完算三年，四年读完算四年，我这是英文版《傲慢与偏见》阅读专门学院。
