Elsternwick House 7, crafted by Merrylees Architecture, nestles in a suburb steeped in old-world charm, harmonizing mid-Victorian heritage with contemporary minimalism. The original façade, complete with its classic verandah and symmetrical elegance, is meticulously restored, honoring the area’s architectural legacy of Victorian, Edwardian, and Californian Bungalows. Steel-framed glazed doors mark a striking junction between old and new, inviting light into a sequence of modern living spaces that cater to a close-knit family’s needs, blending nostalgia with everyday functionality.

The home’s heart lies in its flexible, light-filled core: a compact kitchen, dining, and lounge area connected to a multi-purpose second living room that doubles as a study or retreat. Concealed cavity sliders and pocket doors allow spaces to expand or contract, maximizing every 192 square metre. Large glazed openings dissolve the line between indoors and out, while an outdoor fireplace, pitched pergola, and BBQ area extend living into the garden, fostering year-round connection to the landscape and creating moments of shared joy for the family.
