Dale Connelly, 23, got down on one knee for Catherine Scott after having them delivered to the end of Southend Pier in Essex, which he had hired for the occasion.

“High tide, low tide, I ll be by your side. Time to start our happily ever after.”

Teaching assistant Catherine, 25,who said yes, had her first holiday with partner of five years Dale in Southend.

She said: “I can t believe he managed to keep his plan a secret and put so many touches into it.”

PizzaExpress boss Aga Machetanz, who helped media worker Dale, said: “We were just as excited as him as we waited for Catherine s reaction.”
