Bloomberg is reporting that HTC will unveil the first of three new pieces of wearable technology to carriers at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next week.

Following rumors last year about a forthcoming smartwatch, "a person with direct knowledge of the plans" claims that HTC will show off a smartwatch prototype based on Qualcomm's Toq device, but just to carriers. Apparently there's no plan to unveil it to the public just yet, but according to the source it will feature"Qualcomm's Mirasol display technology, Bluetooth connectivity and a music player."

Elsewhere, Bloomberg's report suggests that HTC is also working on a smartwatch powered by Google Now—which will "likely feature an AMOLED screen"—and an "electronic bracelet that plays music." Actually, that last one sounds interesting, with "a thin touch-screen display, music player and activity-tracking features."

If all those claims are true, HTC is certainly covering its bases, which perhaps isn't surprising given its woeful financial performance of late.
