The actual numbers are believed tobe much higher due to testing shortages, many unreported cases and suspicionsthat some governments are hiding the scope of their nations' outbreaks.

The United States has become theworst-affected country, with more than 1 million diagnosed cases and at least60,966 deaths.

The U.S. reached another grim milestoneWednesday afternoon as the death toll climbed over 60,000.

President Donald Trump last week cited60,000 as a high-end estimate of how many people would die from thecoronavirus.

The president on Monday revised thatestimate to 60,000 to 70,000, after the U.S. crossed a death toll of 55,000.

100 bodies found in trucks outsidefuneral home

One hundred bodies have been found in twounrefrigerated trucks outside of a Brooklyn, New York, funeral home afterneighbors complained about a stench from bodies being stored in trailers.

"The Department has been notified ofstorage issues of decedents and alternate arrangements are being made by thefuneral home," the New York State Health Department said in a statement.

Funeral directors are required to storedecedents awaiting burial or other final disposition in appropriate conditionsand follow their routine infection prevention and control precautions.

The funeral home director at Andrew T.Cleckley Funeral Services on Utica Avenue in the Flatlands section said theyran out of places to store the bodies.

The state health department will issue asummons for improper storage.

Scores of veterans killed in 'horrific'coronavirus outbreak at Massachusetts elder care facility

The coronavirus has killed at least80 veterans at an elder care facility in Massachusetts, inwhat's being described as the deadliest known outbreak at a long-term carefacility in the U.S.

An additional 82 veterans and 81 employeeshave tested positive for the virus at Holyoke Soldiers' Home, and federalofficials are trying to determine whether residents were denied propermedical care as deaths continue to climb.

“It’s horrific,” said Edward Lapointe,whose father-in-law lives at the home and had a mild case of the virus. “Theseguys never had a chance.”

The outbreak has now claimed the lives ofnearly one-third of all residents at the veterans' home, with a new fatalitybeing reported almost every day.
