check n.支票

rain check 最初指球赛中因为下雨主办方延期就会给观众一些“雨票”，表示下次可以直接使用；

rain check = another chance 另一方面则类似于超市里的优惠商品的保存券，即就算这些优惠商品全部卖完了，如果有rain check，即使过了特惠期，也可以拿着rain check来享用这些商品的优惠价。

用法

I'd love to dine out with you, but I have other plans. Can I take a rain check?

我很想跟你们出去吃饭，但是我有其他的计划了。我能不能开个“雨票”？

——Hey, remember I told you about that blind date you might be interested in?

——朋友，你还记得我和你说的那个你可能会感兴趣的相亲活动嘛？

spill the bean 赛马用语，最初表示被看好的马没有获胜，表示“爆冷门”；1910年表示某人说了不该说的话而破坏了该有的现状；1919年至今表示某人泄露了秘密。

用法

牛奶撒了一桌。

The coins spilt on to the floor.

硬币散落了一地。

Tony was scared of death, because I was going to spill the beans to the cops.

Spring Festival Couplets consist of two paper scrolls, pasted vertically on both sides of the doorway. And a shorter horizontal scroll is often pasted across the top.

春联一般是由两张纸卷轴组成，被竖着贴在我们的门口，顶中一张比较短的被横着贴的就是横批。

English couplets

英文春联（English couplets），是一种独特的文学形式。它不仅具备了中国传统春联工整、对偶、简洁的特点，同时也可看出中国文化在世界的影响，形成了一种新的文学形式。由中国书法家协会会员陈飞于2011年创新得来。很多人认为，英文春联除了图个吉利，还能够学英语。语法不重要，“中式”英语完全可以接受。要是出现了语法错误，人们似乎也并不十分在意，反而更喜欢这种通过”字面意思“表达的英语。就像大家熟知的“Good good study, day day up”（好好学习，天天向上）一样。例如：上联：Happy New Year. （新年好）下联：Money Runs Here. （钱来到）横批：Everything goes well. （万事如意）
