Goddess of Salt Lake

He was shining in the midst of them all.

I heard my heart melting.

“Noble King, my friend afar,

could this be the home you seek?”

The moment he shook his head, my head was spinning,

when I was the most ordinary woman in the world.

“When the sun rises, the stars and the moon disappear,

Please allow me to move on.”

You saw the sky was dark like in the night with flying insects.

Forgive me for the little selfishness I have left.

But when his arrows pierced my body,

with it sank my heart, which would never rise again.

Why didn’t the sky fall,

nor the earth crumble at this moment?

Note: Lord Lin, the leader of the ancient state, Ba, led his people to seek the land for their founding, passing by the north of salt lake. The goddess of salt lake fell in love with him and tried to keep him. Although Lord Lin loved the goddess, he still told her that when the sun rose, he would set off again. The goddess waited until dawn, together with her people, and turned into flying insects, blocking the sun. The day would not light, and the beloved would not go. Lord Lin had seen through the trick of the goddess and sent her a blue ribbon. The goddess, who turned into

a flying insect, still wearing the ribbon. Seeing the blue ribbon flying in the wind, Lord Lin took up his bow and arrow and shot at the ribbon...... This is a beautiful legend from Tujia Nationality, Ba people. I would like to present this poem to millions of Tujia people.
