In order to ensure the professionalism and fairness of this award selection, the Organising Committee invited industry elites from academia, non-governmental organisations, media and professional service institutions to form the judging panel. Participating enterprises must demonstrate their effort and actions in promoting biodiversity conservation in their operations when implementing ESG (environmental, social, and governance) projects in the Greater Bay Area. We have considered various aspects in the evaluation criteria, including the enterprises' biodiversity policies and practices, ESG performance, transparency of disclosures, policy advocacy and its influence.

The Third Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) emphasised the need to deepen the reform of the system for developing an ecological civilisation, and building a beautiful China, accelerating the comprehensive green transformation of economic and social development, and promoting the harmonious coexistence of humanity and nature. The announcement of the first'Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area ESG Biodiversity Corporate Recognition Award'not only recognises the effort of private sector companies in biodiversity conservation but also encourages more enterprises to join the ranks of ecological protection in the future. We look forward to building a beautiful future where humans and nature coexist harmoniously.

"During this evaluation process, we were heartened to see many enterprises integrating innovative technologies such as AI (artificial intelligence) and Digital Twin into practical cases of biodiversity conservation. Amid the urban jungle of steel and concrete, these companies not only focus on building ecological civilisation but also reduce disruption to biodiversity and ecosystems through concrete measures such as modifying glass to prevent bird collisions. Moreover, they ingeniously integrate biodiversity into multi-platform products, including news, music, games, and even public welfare packages in the catering industry, to spark public interest and raise environmental awareness, thereby indirectly supporting biodiversity conservation.

Through the influence of these pioneers, we hope there will be more companies to take positive actions, respond to national policies, and accelerate the comprehensive green transformation. As we continue our journey to green development, we aim to stimulate new high-quality productive forces. This supports the ecological protection related initiatives of being 'Beautiful China,''Green Greater Bay Area,' and 'Green and Beautiful Guangdong,' enhancing the national exemplary role of the 'Green Bay Area' and 'Green and Beautiful Guangdong.' Furthermore, these initiatives are expected to promote international cooperation, strengthen global influence, build a shared community of life with nature, and establish 'Green Greater Bay Area' and 'Green and Beautiful Guangdong' as new symbols of ecological progress."

"This year, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the People's Republic of China released the China National Biodiversity Conservation Strategy and Action Plan (2023-2030), which clearly stated that it is necessary to 'evaluate scientifically the impact of corporate activities on biodiversity, promote the inclusion of biodiversity-related information in the legally required disclosure of corporate environmental information, and incorporate such information into their corporate governance activities, as well as corporate sustainability reports including ESG reports'. Through the selection of this award, we hope to inspire and support enterprises in the Greater Bay Area and across the country to take active measures and actions in understanding the impact of their activities in biodiversity, and integrate sustainable practices to reduce those impacts."

"Systematic protection of biodiversity contributes to achieving green, inclusive and sustainable development of human society. It explores the path of harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature, promotes coordinated unity of economic development and ecological conservation, and helps build a prosperous, clean, and beautiful world.

Encouraging responsible corporations in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to participate in biodiversity conservation is a key component of future ESG initiatives for businesses in the area. The private sector companies play a key role in building a livable, business-friendly, and tourist-attractive Greater Bay Area that embodies the harmonious coexistence of humanity and nature."
