China's cybersecurity authorities have released details of a case involving online abuse targeting a national-level athlete.
“饭圈”乱象严重扰乱体育工作秩序、破坏体育行业声誉、损害体育战线形象，严重扭曲体育精神、消解体育价值、弱化体育功能，已经成为影响体育事业健康发展的重大风险因素。
In a statement issued on Friday, the cybersecurity protection bureau of the Ministry of Public Security said such fanatical behavior has severely disrupted sports order, damaged the industry's reputation, undermined the image of sports personnel, distorted the spirit of sportsmanship, devalued the essence of sports, and weakened its social functions — calling it a major risk factor hampering the healthy development of sports.
徐某（男，31岁）创建跳水“饭圈”微信群，拉业内人士及粉丝入群，为发泄不满、宣泄戾气，不断变换昵称，多次在群内发表针对广东省二沙体育训练中心一运动员的侮辱性言论，恶意拉踩引战，造成恶劣影响。
目前，公安机关已对徐某依法作出行政拘留十日并处罚款的处罚，并对群内其他相关行为人员依法作出处理。
A 31-year-old man surnamed Xu created a diving "fan circle" WeChat group, where he repeatedly posted insulting comments targeting Olympic diving champion Quan Hongchan to vent his anger and incite rivalry.
Xu has been sentenced to 10 days of administrative detention and been ordered to pay a fine. Other group members involved have also been penalized, the bureau added.
网络空间不是法外之地，公安机关网安部门将依法严厉打击以“饭圈”形式对运动员、教练员及管理人员进行网上侮辱、诋毁、诽谤等违法犯罪活动，切实促进体育事业健康可持续发展。
"Cyberspace is not a lawless domain," the bureau warned, vowing to crack down on "fan circle" abuses — including insults and slander against athletes, coaches, and staff — to ensure the healthy development of sports.
