权威的《牛津英语词典》（Oxford English Dictionary，简称OED）日前做了季度更新，发布了一批新词新义，总数达1400余个，其中收录了直译自中文“加油”的add oil。
OED解释道，“Add oil”是近几年香港人广泛使用的一种表达方式，它是粤语“ga yau”（加油的粤语发音）的字面翻译，是表达鼓励或支持的感叹词。。

OED在词源（etymology）里追根究底，说add oil这个词组直译自中文的“加油”，广东话念ga yau，相当于普通话里的jiayou。
把“加油”直译为“add oil”，这原本是个搞笑的中式英语，许多英文老师都会批评纠正，想不到后来流行日广，连最权威的OED也收了，承认它的合法地位。
想进入《牛津英汉词典》可不是那么容易的，每个新词都要经过历史的考验，并为人广泛熟知。
According to Oxford University Press, a word must require sufficient independent examples of use over a “reasonable amount of time” to be considered for inclusion.
牛津大学出版社表示，一个词需要在“合理的一段时间”内有足够多的独立使用案例才能被考虑纳入词典内。
The publishers also consider whether the word has reached a “level of general currency”, that is, understood by readers without the need of an explanation of its meaning.
出版社还会考虑这个词是否达到了“通用标准”，即读者不需要注解便能理解它的意思。

一门好语言，在其发展过程中都会兼收并蓄，吸收外来文化元素，下面这些词汇就颇具“中国元素”的代表。
“jiaozi”（饺子）

可以预见的是，随着中国国际地位提升和互联网发展的作用下，会有更多看似很荒诞的流行语被收录进外语权威词典里。
