Guangdong reported two new confirmed COVID-19 cases yesterday (April 22), one each in Guangzhou and Foshan, as well as 4 more asymptomatic carriers, all in Guangzhou.
The case in Guangzhou involved a Chinese student from the U.S., who flew to Guangzhou on flight CZ328 and landed on April 21. She was transferred to centralized quarantine upon entry and tested positive later for the virus .
The case in Foshan involved a 26-year-old Chinese male, who lives in Nanhai district of Foshan city. He came to see the doctor in Nanhai Sixth People’s Hospital on April 19 and took a test. The result came back positive. Though with no symptoms, he was transferred to Foshan 4th People’s Hospital for medical observation. He was confirmed with the infection on April 22 after showing symptoms.

Details of the 4 asymptomatic carriers in Guangzhou:
Case 1:a Chinese student from the U.S., who flew back on April 16 through flights DL72 and CZ308 and arrived in Guangzhou on April 18. She tested positive for the virus during centralized quarantine.
Case 2 and 3:a sanitation worker and a thirteen-year-old student, who both live in Tangxia street, Tianhe district. They were identified in a screening around Tangxia street where some previous cases were reported.
Case 4:a 26-year-old male who lives in Huaguan Lu, Tianhe district. He was identified in a screening around Taksim restaurant (塔克西餐厅) in Jianshe Liu Malu (建设六马路) where some previous cases were reported.
984 asymptomatic cases under medical observation
On April 22, the Chinese mainland announced 10 more COVID-19 cases—six imported and four domestic, according to the National Health Commission, which also reported 27 new asymptomatic patients and no more deaths.
As of Wednesday, China has reported 1,616 confirmed imported cases, with 823 of them discharged from hospitals and 37 still in severe condition.
A total of 984 asymptomatic infections, including 166 from abroad, are still under medical observation.
COVID-19 upward trends in Africa and South America worrying
The World Health Organization (WHO) said yesterday there is still a long way to go in the battle against COVID-19 disease, as the number of global cases approached 2.5 million and the death toll exceeded 160,000.
According to the WHO, most of the outbreaks in Western Europe appear to be stable or declining, but there are worrying upward trends in Africa, Central and South America, and Eastern Europe, although the numbers are currently low.
French President Emmanuel Macron announced yesterday that the government will gradually ease movement restrictions from May 11 in different regions of the country.
All federal states in Germany have made mask-wearing in public obligatory.
