今天有同学问我instead与instead of的区别，其实这二者是近义词。它们的释义如下。instead代替，顶替， 反而， 反倒；insteadof（用…）代替…，（是…）而不是…，（用…）而不用…。instead是副词，insteadof是介词短语。如果有的朋友不清楚状语是什么，请看我前面的文章《语法照妖镜：状语从句是个什么“鬼”?》

一、它们的相同之处在于，它们都可以用来表达代替，顶替，作为…的替换的意思。

Mr Zhao is busy withan important project, so I am here instead.赵老师在忙于一个重要的项目，所以我代替他到这儿来了。

Tom bought asecond-hand car, so he can drive to work insteadof taking bus.汤姆买了一辆二手汽车，所以他可以开车上班而不用坐公交车了。

二、它们的区别也是很清楚的，instead作为副词，后面不跟宾语，而insteadof是介词短语，后面需要跟宾语。

Weshould feel grateful for what we have instead of crying for what wo have lost.我们应该感激我们拥有的东西，而不是为我们失去的东西而哭泣。

Don’tworking and thinking it’s meaningless, try to foucus on your work instead.不要一边工作一边想着工作毫无意义，要把注意力集中在你的工作上。

三、instead还可以表示：反而，却。表达转折的意思。instead of没有这种用法。

They didn’t cut thecost, but raised prices instead.他们并没有降低成本，而是提高了价格。

The boy didn’t eat the cake, instead,he gave it to his mother.这个男孩没有吃这个蛋糕，而是把蛋糕给了妈妈。
