UNNC International staff and students celebrate Chinese Lantern Festival.
Amalia Rodero Lopez说。
UNNC International staff and students celebrate Chinese Lantern Festival
Making Ningbo Tangyuan, guessing the lantern riddles, enjoying traditional Chinese operas… to celebrate the Chinese Lantern Festival, the international staff and students of University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC), as well as other foreigners living in Ningbo were invited to visit the Nantang Historical Block to experience the traditional Chinese culture of New Year and Lantern Festival.
This international cultural exchange experience activity was sponsored by UNNC, Ningbo Tourism Information Centre and Ningbo Focus, aiming to promote cultures of traditional Chinese festivals, and encourage culture exchanges and mutual learning internationally.
In the Nantang Historical Block, participants tried to make cloth red envelopes with tiger print for the New Year of the Tiger. As the activity took place at the same time as the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games, during which the Olympic mascot “Bing Dwen Dwen” went viral on the Internet, the participants also made Tangyuan in the shape of “Bing Dwen Dwen” to celebrate this special Lantern Festival. Dr Jan Jozwik, Assistant Professor of Economics at UNNC and his wife Amalia Rodero Lopez had been watching the Olympic Games and enjoyed the Tangyuan making activity. “I’m excited to have this immersive experience of traditional Chinese festivals and I love ‘Bing Dwen Dwen’, so I’m quite impressed by these ‘Bing Dwen Dwen’ Tangyuan,” said Amalia.
In the folk culture of traditional Lantern Festival, guessing lantern riddles, appreciating the decorative lanterns and eating Tangyuan are symbolic ways of celebration. In the Nantang Historical Block, the participants showed great interest in the diverse activities and enjoyed the festival atmosphere.
As a pioneer and role model of international higher education institute jointly established by the Chinese and British governments, UNNC now has staff and students from more than 70 countries and regions around the world. Here they visit China, learn about Chinese culture, and become ambassadors of Chinese culture.
