民以食为天
作为一个吃货,每天想的都是——
今天吃什么呢?
“小伙伴安利的这家店,这周末去吃吧~”
“天啊这个也太好吃了吧,果断给个好评~”
但是,用英文表达可不能说
These foods arevery delicious.
估计很多同学都看不出这句话哪里有问题,
今天就来和小编一起学习下吧~
在英语表达中,我们可以用和来形容好吃,tasty可以加very说成very tasty表示非常好吃,但是delicious却不可以加very这是为什么呢?
"Delicious" is a strong adjective for "tasty". Typically, you use absolute adverbs (absolutely, utterly, etc) with strong [adjectives], and gradable adverbs (very) with gradable adjectives.
Delicious本身就是一个强化版的tasty,通常,你使用绝对副词(绝对地absolutely、完全地utterly等)搭配这样的强形容词,使用可分级副词(非常very)搭配可分级形容词。
常见的强形容词有:
enormous, huge (巨大的)= very big
brilliant (才华出众的)= very clever
awful; terrible; disgusting; dreadful (极坏的)= very bad
certain (确信的)= very sure
excellent; perfect; ideal; wonderful; splendid (完美的)= very good
还有就是
delicious = very tasty
We do not normally use very with these adjectives. We do not say something is "very enormous" or someone is "very brilliant".
我们通常不用very来修饰这些形容词。我们不会说某件事very enormous或者某人very brilliant。
我们可以通过这个外教音频课程来了解一下Intensifiers(加强词)和 Strong Adjectives(强形容词)~
In this language focus video, we will discuss what an intensifier is and how to use intensifiers.
在这节语言主题视频中,我们将讨论什么是加强词以及如何使用加强词。
Intensifiers are words that are used to make adjectives stronger.
加强词是用来使形容词更强烈的词。
Remember, an adjective is a word that is used to describe a noun such as hot, windy or wet.
记住,形容词是用来修饰名词的,比如热的、多风的或湿的。
If we want to make one of those adjectives stronger, we would add an intensifier such as very, really or extremely. For example, we might say that the temperature isveryhot or the weather isreallywindy.
如果我们想让这些形容词的程度更强烈,我们可以加一个加强词,如very(很), really(真的)或extremely(极其的)。例如,我们可能会说天气很热或者风很大。
Other common intensifiers include incredibly, exceptionally, particularly, unusually and amazingly.
其他常见的加强词包括难以置信的,例外的,特别的,异常的和惊人的。
Now that we know what intensifiers are. Let's look at how to use them.
现在我们知道什么是加强词了。让我们看看如何使用它们。
Almost all of the time, an intensifier comes before an adjective. Think about the examples we just said,
几乎所有的时候,加强词都在形容词前面。想想我们刚才说的例子,
verycame beforehot
very在hot之前
andreallycame beforewindy.
really在windy之前。
Let's look a little deeper at the two most common intensifiers:very and really.
让我们更深入地看看两个最常见的加强词:very和really。
The word really can be used to describe almost any adjective. For example, pretend you want to describe the temperature on the Dark Side of the Moon, you might say that the Dark Side of the Moon isreallycold.
这个词几乎可以用来修饰任何形容词。例如,假设你想描述月球暗面的温度,你可能会说月球暗面真的很冷。
In this case you could also say that the Dark Side of the Moon isverycold. While the word "very" can be used in this case.
在这种情况下,你也可以说月球的暗面非常冷。而very也可以用在这种情况下。
You need to be a little more careful in using it, because you cannot sayverywith a certain group of adjectives calledstrong adjectives.
但是在使用very的时候你还需要更小心一点,因为你不能用very来修饰一组被称为强形容词的词。
Strong adjectives include words like amazing, awful, boiling and freezing.
强形容词包括惊人的,糟糕的、沸腾的和极冷的。
Amazingmeansvery good,
awfulmeansvery bad,
boilingmeansvery hot,
andfreezingmeansvery cold.
These words have the intensifier very and their definition already. Therefore you must be careful not to use very as an intensifier as well.
这些词已经有了加强语气词very在它们本身的意思里。因此,你必须注意不要把 "very "也作为加强词去修饰它们。
Instead you should choose another intensifier, such asabsolutely, extremely, particularly or really.
而是,你应该选择另一个增强词,如绝对、极其、特别或真的。
Let's think back to the example we just described instead.
让我们回想一下我们刚刚描述的例子。
Let's use the word freezing to describe the temperature of the Dark Side of the Moon. We might say that the dark side of the moon isreallyfreezing, but would we say it isveryfreezing?
让我们用“冻结”这个词来描述月球暗面的温度。我们可能会说月球的暗面really freezing,但我们会说它very freezing吗?
Freezing is a strong adjective because it meansvery cold. Therefore when we describe the temperature of the Dark Side of the Moon, we would not say that it is very freezing.
Freezing是一个强形容词,因为它表示非常冷。因此,当我们描述月球暗面的温度时,我们不会说它very freezing。
Instead we might say it isextremelyfreezing orabsolutelyfreezing.
而是,我们可能会说它extremely freezing或absolutely freezing。
So, let's summarize the key points from this video. Intensifiers are words that make adjectives stronger. Intensifiers come before an adjective.
让我们总结一下这个内容的要点。加强词是使形容词程度更强的词。加强词放在形容词前面。
Strong adjectives have the word very in the definition. Therefore be careful not to use the intensifier very with those words.
强形容词的意思里包含very这个词。因此,要注意不要再在这些词上使用加强词。
结论:“delicious”本身就是一个表示程度很深的词,带有“非常,绝对”的意思,相当于“very tasty”,就没有必要在前面再加上“very”了。直接说It’s delicious.就好。
好啦,今天的小知识点,你学会了嘛?
