Super Curriculum Week provides opportunities for our pupils to explore the outdoor nature and indoor art spaces through wetland studies and in-school art classes!
With the theme of My City - My Life - My Aesthetic, we provide children with project-based, inquiry-focused programmes to support their positive development.
Together, our Little Lions listened to the sound of the sea breeze blowing through the mangrove trees, watched how different fish swam, created crafts with their imagination, and enjoyed the Super Curriculum Week with confidence and joy!

Exploring Unique Natural Environment
- Trip to Haikou Dongzhaigang Mangrove Nature Reserve
During the week, the lovely Harrow pupils embarked on a unique adventure in this lush green world!
Mangrove wetlands are a precious treasure. In this vibrant ecological habitat, the expert tutors used vivid cartoon animations and pictures to teach the children about the wetland. They also collected hermit crabs, spiders, frogs, and other animal friends living in the wetland so that the children could observe them up close, while the tutors told the children stories about the mangrove wetland.
The children then setoff on their field trip with their Adventure Observation Kits. The two teamsexperienced different activities, one intheindoor science centre and then another on theoutdoor wetland walkways. In the science centre, they used their adventurebooklet to draw and record the kandelia candel in the mangrove forest andlistened to the story of the nypa palm. In the outdoor wetland, childrenobserved crabs with different pincer sizes and searched for snapping shrimpsthat were only heard but not seen. Each child recorded their mangroveobservations in their booklet, creating their unique memories of the mangrovewetland tour.
After observing, understanding and exploring the mangrove wetland from different angles, our little explorers designed some handmade artwork with the theme of My Wetland Kingdom and put their observations and thoughts into a small box. This was not only an exploration of the wetland, but also an intimate dialogue with nature.
Through the field trip, the children gained a deeper understanding of the importance of wetland ecosystems and the significance of protecting wetlands to maintaining ecological balance and biodiversity.

My Life
The Multiverse in Picture Books
The picture book classes provided by Harrow Little Lions Early Years Centre are lessons on book stories and utlised activities such as woodworking and cooking classes to enhance learning and understanding. This transformed a the two-dimensional picture into a three-dimensional reality and helped stories to come alive.
Interactive Picture Book Classes
The picture book classes in the Super Curriculum Week used three distinctive storytelling methods, namely apron drama, picture book shadow play, and picture book TV, which greatly enhanced the interactivity and fun.
The teacher uses apron drama to talk about two picture books, Dot and Change and Rainbow. The teacher's apron was turned into a small stage, and elements from the picture books were turned into three-dimensional images that popped out and interacted with the children.
When teaching the picture book Mongoose's Christmas, the teacher abandoned the traditional way of teaching picture books and made the creative TV frame to create changeable three-dimensional images.
When teaching the picture book Toto's Acorn, the teacher used the form of shadow theatre from traditional Chinese culture to tell a story with light and shadow. A homemade shadow play theatre made from cardboard boxes became a childlike expression of traditional shadow play.
Cooking with Our Little Chefs
Before the cooking class began, the teachers blindfolded the children so that they could learn about different ingredients through touch, smell, and taste.
Then, though the process of making a Colourful Mashed Potato Salad, the children first learned about the types of salads around the world. Then they used potatoes, cucumbers, ham, shrimp, corn, and other ingredients to make their salads. From the picture book Rainbow came a food creation that incorporated in rainbow colours.
In the process of making Christmas Finger Rice Cake, the children not only learnt about the origin of Christmas, but also learnt to identify eggs, glutinous rice flour, sugar and milk, and then tried to make the batter by mixing it well by themselves. They mixed the batter into their favourite colours and made the cakes into different shapes with great imagination.
Throughout the journey of trying to make and taste the food, our little chefs experienced the colourful charm and joy of the food.
Natural Woodworking Class
- Wooden Chair
The children then transformed into nature's artists - little carpenters.
Sawing, sanding, shaping and refining... The children tried to complete their first wooden chairs independently, some with cute kittens and others with purple flowers. The seemingly childish brushstrokes have a distinctive artistic beauty, and each piece is a small work of art.
Strengthening Links with
the World by Hand
There are many ways to perceive the world. The teacher helped the children learn about and understand chair design styles from different countries around the world. These chairs have different meanings, some represent the author's emotions, some represent the author's love of life, etc.
We try to use various perspectives to help the children understand the world in different ways. Whether it's a woodworking class or a cooking class, the children become unique creators and develop their worldview.

My Aesthetic
How I Create a Better World
The art classroom is an important space for the aesthetic output of a kindergarten. It is not only a space for children to paint and draw, but also a space for free creativity and multi-dimensional perception.
Here, the art teacher plays the leading role, turning the art classroom into inspirational art space and helping the children in it to improve their artistic qualities in terms of feeling, perception, aesthetics, creation, imagination and creativity.
The highlight of the work Dancing Hair Hidden in a French Artwork is the presentation of the hair, which the children need to create by combining various materials and using their imagination to make the hair more dynamic and alive!
The materials used in Future City were relatively new. The children were required to use the hardness of wire combined with the softness of stockings to shape the buildings of the future. Our Little Lions used their imagination to create many surprises for us.
The three-dimensional work of The Moving Sculpture guides children to think about the balance between objects. Have a look at how they make the sculpture move!
In making the three-dimensional work Dots and Lines in My World, the children follow the rhythm of music to create and recognise the magical geometry of dots and lines. Finally, in the process of completing Crazy Graffiti Art, all the children worked as a group to create their childhood memories!
During SuperCurriculum Week, our pupils can learn, see, hear, smell, taste and touch theworld around them through the exploration of natureand art.
These unique programmes of enrichedlearning experiences enabled students to develop their independence, curiosity, collaboration skills and communication abilities. It also helped children toconnect their learning with the real world and this will allow them betterunderstand the beauty and value of the world we all live in.
