Same wooden counter, same soft music, and the same chalkboard sign that read:

She ordered a cup and sat by the window, where golden light painted her book in amber.
That’s when the bell above the door jingled.
And he walked in.
Eli.
Same tousled hair. Same quiet presence. But his eyes widened when he saw her.
She tried to smile. He looked stunned.
“Still reading Austen?” he asked, nodding at her book.
She nodded. “Still drinking lemon tea?”
He raised his cup. “Didn’t dare stop.”
They sat. At first, carefully—like touching pages in a fragile book.
They talked about cities they’d lived in, people they’d become.
About why they stopped writing letters.
