Xu Di, Head of the Education and Publicity Department of Minhang Museum, explained that the artwork was unearthed from a joint burial tomb in the Astana region of Xinjiang and was originally fixed to the ceiling of the tomb chamber. In the painting, Nüwa appears on the left holding a compass, while Fuxi stands on the right holding a square—symbols representing the act of drawing circles and squares. Together, they embody ancient philosophical concepts such as "round Heaven and square Earth" and the idea that order and standards underpin the universe. Measuring nearly two meters in length, the artwork delivers a powerful visual and emotional impact when viewed up close.
