我小时候最痛恨我的父母叫我「阿牛」，这个不雅的绰号。在那个时候，我有苦难言，只好婉转请问父母：别人都叫「小龙」「小虎」的。龙争虎斗，多么威风啊！那为什么一定要叫我「牛」呢？一想到庙里的牛头马面，心中真不是滋味！我父母直截了当回答说：「就是你小时候太调皮了。所以新商宿舍里的老师们共同给你给你取个绰号「阿牛」。
我的父母亲及长辈都不知道我小时候心中有这块阴影，他们都在公共场所大声喊叫「阿牛」。例如在大门口大喊：「阿牛！快带弟弟妹妹回家吃饭！」我在青春期的时候，一听到，就恨不得挖个洞，钻进去，躲起来。
直到我念竹中时，有一天，我终于鼓起勇气，向父母亲表达我的心声，我父母听完，非常惊讶，但是不说一语。从此以后他们只称呼我「持平」或是「老大」，绝口不称呼「阿牛」二字。就算是有时候我父亲忘记了，再喊我乳名，我的母亲也会快快用眼神去暗示他一下千万不可。后来我去念大学，只有年纪大的长辈不知情，还是喊我「阿牛」「阿牛」的。但是我的父母一定不再如此称呼我。
当我年纪愈来愈大，我竟然心中愈渴望我的父母再叫我一次「阿牛」。然而我再也说不出口去请他们再叫我「阿牛」。而后，我和年纪大的长辈例如阿姨，姨丈，婶婆，外公，外婆在一起的时候，听到他们喊叫我「阿牛」，一时倍感亲切，彷佛又我又重回到人间。
现在我的父母己经仙逝多年。要是有人再叫我一声「阿牛」，我可是欢欣无比，那肯定是看我长大的长辈或是我小时候的玩伴。
长大后，我才知道原来牛是被农民非常尊敬的动物，牛是勤劳朴实的象征，牛是刻苦耕作的生物，牛是人类的益友。我小时候实在不懂得父母的用心，及至长大后，非常懊悔当初的年少轻狂。
现在我己经到了老年，只好自娱娱人一番，于是我画了三幅作品：「请再拥抱我一次」「走在乡间的小路上」和「村晚」。我化身小儿，希望父母再喊我一次「阿牛」，但是往事如烟，时不我与。
