本周我们学习和宠物相关的词汇
1. kennel /'ken(ə)l/
n. 狗舍；狗屋
e.g.The dog sleeps in a kennel outside.
e.g. We put our dog in a kennel while we were on holiday.
n. 把…关进狗舍；宿于狗舍
e.g. The dogs are kenneled at night.
类似表达：board a dog 寄养狗
e.g. We had our dog boarded while we were on holiday.
2. shelter/ˈʃeltər/
n. 收容所；庇护所
e.g.I adopted my dog from an animal shelter.
e.g.Animals were trying to find shelter from the storm.
e.g.The shelter takes in abandoned animals.
补充：take in 收留
3. groom/ɡru:m/
v. 给宠物梳理;清洁;护理
e.g.Some pets need to be groomed regularly because they have long hair.
e.g.The cat was grooming itself in the corner.
grooming n. 宠物美容;梳理护理
补充：pet grooming salon: 宠物美容店
e.g.Regular grooming is important for pets with long fur.
e.g.I take my dog to a pet grooming salon once a month.
4. puppy mill /ˈpʌpi mɪl/
为了盈利而大量繁殖幼犬的商业繁殖场,一般生活条件差
e.g.Instead of buying a puppy from a puppy mill, people should consider adopting one from an animal shelter.
e.g.Dogs in puppy mills may receive very little medical care.
5. stray /streɪ/
adj.(狗、猫)走失的，迷路的，无主的；
e.g.There are quite a few stray cats in my neighborhood.
e.g.Some stray dogs may have been abandoned by their owners.
补充：abandon v. 遗弃
n. 走失的动物；流浪的动物
e.g. She decided to adopt a stray cat she found on the street.
e.g Instead of buying a pet, people can adopt a stray and give it a second chance.
