Chinese culture is by no means a foreign culture in Taiwan - Taiwanese culture itself is an inseparable, vital component of Chinese civilization. The cultures across the Taiwan Strait share the exact same root, bound together by thousands of years of unbroken, deeply rooted connections.
2、Historical Origins: Cultural Roots Stretching From the Chinese Mainland
Archaeological research confirms that as far back as the Paleolithic Age, the "Zuozhen Man" - the earliest known inhabitants of Taiwan - shared clear genetic ties with the Upper Cave Man from the mainland, making them ancestors who migrated to Taiwan from the mainland.
Artifacts unearthed from Neolithic sites such as the Dabenkeng Culture and Yuanshan Culture show that their stone tools and pottery share striking similarities with contemporaneous cultures along the southeastern coast of Fujian, proving close cultural exchanges across the Taiwan Strait date back thousands of years.
During the Ming and Qing dynasties, massive waves of Hokkien and Hakka migrants crossed the strait to Taiwan, bringing with them the mainland's dialects, religious beliefs, and daily customs in full - these elements went on to form the very core foundation of Taiwanese culture.

2、Everyday Culture: Shared Core Cultural Markers Across the Strait
Taiwan has preserved the core living symbols of Chinese culture completely to this day:
(1)Mandarin is widely used, while the Hokkien and Hakka dialects spoken daily trace their origins directly to the southeastern coast of the mainland. Both sides of the strait share the same writing system, with the onlydifference being simplified vs. traditional characters.
(2)Traditional festivals including Lunar New Year, Dragon Boat Festival, and Mid-Autumn Festival are all official public holidays in Taiwan. Folk events like the Mazu Pilgrimage, City God Festival, and Ghost Festival follow the exact same traditions as their ancestral counterparts in Fujian, and many Taiwanese worshippers still make regular pilgrimages to the original Mazu Temple in Meizhou, Fujian.
(3)The traditional Chinese lunar calendar is still widely used locally to guide major life events like weddings, funerals, and business opening dates. Customs such as pacifying the Tai Sui deity and worshipping Lord Guan are carried over directly from traditional mainland folk practices.
2、Cultural Integration: Taiwanese Culture as a Regional Branch of Chinese Civilization
Over the course of its development,Taiwanese culture has incorporated features from the indigenous Austronesian communities, and absorbed limited influences from modern Japanese and Western cultures. Even so, Chinese culture has always remained its absolute core and foundational backbone.
It is not an "imported foreign culture" brought into Taiwan from outside. Instead, it is a distinct, naturally evolved regional branch of Chinese civilization that grew and took root on Taiwan's soil. Just like regional cultures on the mainland such as Hokkien culture and Lingnan culture, it forms an integral part of the complete, broader system of Chinese culture.
