A GP was found dead at her home while hosting a children's sleepover, locals have said.

Hannah Cain, in her 40s, was found dead in Dersingham, Norfolk, on the edge of the Sandringham estate, during the early hours of Sunday.

A man in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.

Known professionally as Dr Hannah Terry, she worked at a surgery in nearby Grimston. It was closed today for what managers said were extremely difficult circumstances affecting our practice team.

Hannah also worked at Norfolk Sky Aesthetics, a cosmetic treatment company.

Locals in Dersingham, which is around a mile from Sandringham House, say Hannah had young children and that others had been staying at her home, a large detached property on Fern Hill. After police were called to the house at around 2.20am, the other children were taken by officers to their families.

A cordon was subsequently put in place outside the property, and the access road remained closed today with police cars still present.

One well-wisher was seen laying flowers outside the property this morning.

Special operations officers arrived in a van and parked in a neighbour's drive this afternoon. They were seen pulling on blue gloves before entering the property.

Those living in the village described it as a quiet corner of Norfolk. One neighbour said Hannah had lived at the house on Fern Hill, a tree-lined lane leading out of the village and into open countryside, for 10 years.

She said: She was just a lovely human being with three gorgeous young children. Somethings obviously gone very badly wrong. Im just out of words, we all are.

A man in his 90s, who lives next door, said: I didnt know anything until the police came. I very rarely saw them, the children were lovely. They used to kick their football into my garden and Id throw it back to them, or theyd come and ask me if they could come in and look for it."

You read about things like this happening in other places, another neighbour said. But nothing like it ever happens this close to home.

Another man who has lived nearby for 50 years said it was a friendly village. Dersingham might not have a centre but its got a heart, he added.

A further person said: Its the sort of place where if you forget to lock your car and leave it out all night nothing will happen to it."

Police investigations into the incident are ongoing, and an extension has been granted to allow officers to question the suspect for an additional 32 hours.

Norfolk Police said: "Detectives have been granted extra time to question a man arrested following the death of a woman in Dersingham.

"Police were called to a house in Fern Hill shortly after 2.20am yesterday (Sunday 4 October 2026) by the ambulance service. Sadly, a woman in her 40s was pronounced dead at the scene. A man in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of murder and taken to Kings Lynn Police Investigation Centre where he remains.

"Today (Monday 5 October) officers applied to Great Yarmouth Magistrates Court for a warrant of further detention. The warrant will allow them an additional 32 hours to question the man. A cordon is still in place at the address while we continue to carry out enquiries."
