It is notable that two groups contributed more to household tasks. Unemployed womenspent the most time indomestic tasks during the 20-year period, beginning at 7 hours in 1985. This figuredipped slightlyto 6.8 hours in 1995,beforerising back to7 hours by 2005.In comparison, part-time working women devoted 6 hours per day to household chores in all the three years,ranking secondin terms of time spent on housework.

In contrast, full-time working adults spent considerably less time on domestic duties. Forfull-time employed women, the averagedropped significantlyfrom 3 hours in 1985 to 2 hours in 1995,followed bya modest rise to2.5 hours in 2005.Meanwhile, full-time working mensaw a gradual increasein the time spent on chores,reaching1.2 hours in 2005.
