1. tonic /'tɒnɪk/
n.有益身心的东西
e.g. Spending time with children can be a real tonic after a stressful week.
e.g. A weekend in the mountains was always a tonic for him.
近义表达：respite n. 不快事情中的喘息，缓解
搭配：an emotional respite from …. 从…中获得片刻喘息
e.g. Reading fiction offers a temporary emotional respite from reality.
e.g. The weekend provided a nice respite from the pressures of her job.
补充：fiction n. 小说
2. far-flung
adj. 遥远的;偏僻的
常见搭配：
far-flung corners of the world/ globe 天涯海角
far-flung destinations/ regions 偏远的区域
Modern transportation allows travelers to explore even the most far-flung destinations with relative ease.
Tourism has brought visitors to some of the most far-flung corners of the globe.
对比: far-reaching 影响深远的, 而非距离层面的
e.g. The policy may have far-reaching consequences for future generations.
e.g. The decision could have far-reaching consequences for society as a whole.
3. spelunker /spiːlʌŋkə/
n. 洞穴探险爱好者
英式常见:caver
e.g. The experienced spelunker navigated through the narrow underground tunnels.
e.g. Being a spelunker requires courage and physical endurance.
补充：endurance n. 耐力
tunnel n. 隧道；地道
4. mesmerize /ˈmezməˌraɪz/
v. 吸引;迷住
搭配：be mesmerized by 被..所迷住
e.g. I was completely mesmerized by the breathtaking sunset.
e.g. Children are often mesmerized by animated movies.
adj. mesmerizing 迷人的
e.g. The breathtaking landscape was truly mesmerizing, leaving a lasting impression on me.
e.g. The show was utterly mesmerizing, and I couldn’t take my eyes off the stage.
