Shanghai Cuisine opened in Pacific Century Place in downtown Beijing in 2017 with a vision of bringing the flavours of old Shanghai to the northern capital. Master chef Zhu Haifeng’s outstanding craftsmanship and grasp of Shanghai cuisine will make anyone familiar with Shanghai food feel instantly at home.

“屋里厢”这三个字,源于地道上海话“家”的发音。主厨朱师傅将餐厅起名“屋里厢”,是希望用每一道遵循古法精心烹饪的可口菜肴,唤起每一位客人对于家中好味的记忆。而优雅舒适的餐厅环境,妥帖的服务,为着那一口味蕾的满足,那一份治愈归属之感,开业以来,寻味传统本帮菜的新老食客早已视屋里厢为地道上海菜的标杆。
The name Wulixiang is derived from the pronunciation of the word “home” in the Shanghai dialect. Chef Zhu chose the name with the hope of evoking the sense of comfort you feel when eating a good meal at home with family and friends. Shanghai Cuisine has been regarded as the benchmark for authentic Shanghai cuisine ever since it opened, and diners have flocked to the restaurant attracted by not only the delicious food but also the elegant dining space and attentive service.

In keeping with the rapid development of China’s dining culture, Chef Zhu is constantly reflecting on his memories of old Shanghai cuisine, with the aim of bringing them back into the public eye while also reimagining them in creative, modern ways to suit the tastes of contemporary diners. His efforts have won him praise from both the public and the restaurant industry, as well as a series of important awards.

Shanghai Cuisine has held two Michelin stars for two consecutive years, named a Meituan-Dianping Black Pearl one diamond restaurant and a Ctrip Gourmet List platinum restaurant Chef Zhu and the team at Shanghai Cuisine have always been committed to learning and moving forward in the process of introducing Shanghai cuisine to a wider audience. For example, at the gala dinner celebrating the launch of the 2021 Shanghai Michelin Guide, Chef Zhu created a new dish of “crispy fragrant wagyu beef,” reflecting his continuous efforts to diversify his cooking techniques.

Now entering its fourth year, Shanghai Cuisine has recently undergone an upgrade. The newly-redesigned dishes are beautifully composed, complemented by carefully matched tableware. Continuing Chef Zhu’s philosophy of bringing traditional ideas into the modern era without doing away with their original charm, the new menu includes both popular Wulixiang signature dishes and brand-new dishes created by Chef Zhu.
本帮熏鱼、沪式牛肉粒、腌笃鲜、响油鳝鱼丝,一道道传统本帮菜的身影,在家常的做法下,焕发出极致的美味,用带有记忆的上海味道,撩动味蕾神经。全新的摆盘赋予了老菜精致的外衣,餐盘的构图设计极具美感,调动食客感官,留下色香味俱全的记忆。
Smoked Fish、Stir-Fried Beef、Bamboo Shoot Soup、Stir-Fried Shredded Eel, all make an appearance on the menu, evoking memories of dining in Shanghai. All-new tableware elevates the dishes even further, adding visual appeal to an experience that already delights the senses of smell and taste.

新菜的加入,更是朱师傅自己运用炉火纯青的经验,对海派料理的独到表达。酒醉鹅肝杏仁片,将鹅肝用黄酒腌制,搭配自制的烤杏仁片。香脆的杏仁片夹着细腻清香的鹅肝,顺序精致摆放,温柔的色调使人分外舒缓。酸甜软糯的板栗山楂糕,将板栗蒸熟后和山楂融合,赋予它精致的外表,灵巧地端坐于锅巴之上,粉嫩地山楂粉装点着整体造型,舒心悦目。
The new dishes on the menu are a testament to Chef Zhu’s unique understanding of Shanghai cuisine and his many years of experience. For example, Marinated Goose Liver with Almond Slices, the foie gras is marinated in rice wine and served with homemade roasted almond flakes, and the order is delicately arranged, and the gentle tones are extraordinarily soothing. From the sweet side of the menu, hawthorn cake with chestnuts is a delicate, tasty dessert that highlights the sweet-sour flavour of hawthorns and delights the eyes as much as the palate.

In an age when consumer preferences are constantly changing and restaurants need to innovate to survive, Chef Zhu is shouldering the dual responsibility of maintaining old traditions while also creating new ones. His commitment to being a master of his craft has allowed him to come up with a contemporary interpretation of Shanghai cuisine that does not forget its roots. At the same time, he remains committed to introducing Shanghai cuisine to more diners, and even giving an international platform to Chinese cuisine in general.
