Examiner: What is your biggest ambition in life?

Answer:

My biggest ambition is tostart my own businessin the sustainable fashion industry. I’ve always been passionate about environmental protection, and I see fast fashion as a huge contributor to pollution. So mylong-term goalis to create a brand that combines style with eco-friendly materials. I know it’s going to be tough — I‘ll need tostep out of my comfort zoneand learn everything from supply chain management to digital marketing — but I’mdeterminedto make it happen.

Examiner: Did you have any ambitions when you were a child?

Answer:

When I was a child, I wanted to become an astronaut — like many kids, I was fascinated by the stars and the idea of exploring outer space. But as I grew older, I realized that I didn‘t actually enjoy physics that much, so that ambition gradually faded. Now myaspirationsare much moredown-to-earth— I’m more focused on building a stable career and making a positive impact in my own community rather than reaching for the moon literally!

Examiner:

Describe a person who has inspired you to achieve something.

You should say:

  • who this person is

  • what they achieved

  • how they inspired you

  • and explain why their story is meaningful to you.

Answer:

The person who has inspired me the most is my high school English teacher, Ms. Chen. She came from a very modest background — her parents were factory workers and couldn‘t afford any extra tutoring — but she went on to win a national teaching award and later earned her master’s degree in linguistics while working full-time.

What struck me most was herpersistenceandself-motivation. She told us that she studied late into the night after finishing her teaching duties, often with just a cup of tea and sheerdeterminationto keep her going. She didn‘t come from privilege, but she never used that as an excuse. Instead, she set clearshort-term goals— passing each exam, completing each paper — and worked towards them step by step.

She inspired me to believe that where you start doesn’t define where you end up. Whenever I face asetbackor feel like giving up on my own ambitions, I remember her story. She proved that with hard work andperseverance, ordinary people can achieve extraordinary things. To me, she‘s not just a teacher — she’s living proof that ambition can truly change your life.

Examiner: Do you think people should always aim high?

Answer:

That‘s a really interesting question. On one hand, I believe aiming high is essential for personal growth — if you never set challenging goals, you’ll probably never discover your full potential. Many great inventions and breakthroughs exist because someone dared to dream big.

However, I also think ambition needs to be balanced with down-to-earth planning and self-awareness. Unrealistic ambitions can lead to repeated failures and disappointment, which might actually destroy your confidence. For example, if someone with zero musical talent insists on becoming a concert pianist, that‘s probably setting themselves up for frustration rather than fulfillment.

So my view is: aim high, but also break your big ambition into achievable short-term goals. That way, you keep your dreams alive while staying grounded. Ambition without action is just daydreaming.
