Hit a home run / hit it out of the park:

  • I think I really hit a home run on my math test yesterday.

    我觉得我昨天的数学考试真的考得很好。

  • Wow, Jerry, I'm really impressed with your work. You really hit it out of the park this time.

    杰瑞，我对你的工作印象很深刻。你这次真的完成地很出色。

失败

Strike out:

  • I'm striking out on finding a gift for my wife. I'll need to go to the shops again tomorrow.

    我没能成功给我的妻子找到合适的礼物，明天我还得去店里看看。

  • I stuck out but at least I went down swinging. (at least I tried).

    我失败了，但至少我努力尝试过。

A ballpark figure/number:

  • Can you give me a ballpark figure on how much we'll need to spend for the show ?

  • How many units can you make in a year? Give me a ballpark number.

Play hardball:

  • I need to play hardball to get a good price.

  • You are going to half to play hardball with the boss if you expect to get a raise.

Throw a curveball:
